What is a Diode?
Diode is a compound word, “di” meaning two and “ode” meaning electrode.
Notes
- two ends, anode and cathode
- Will only allow current to pass in one direction
- Will allow current to flow when the negative end is connected to the cathode and the positive to the anode.(Forward bias) In the opposite orientation, it is a insulator(reverse bias).
- The diode is a pn junction. At the pn junction a depletion region. Some of the electrons from the N-type filled the holes of the P-type.
