  • This lasted until the end of the 19th century
• Lead to depopulation and economic underdevelopment in africa and great wealth for many europeans
• Any attempts of resistance by the slaves were brutally suppressed

Effects of Slave Trade

• As the market for slaves grew, so did the internal conflict in africa as merchants and traders attempted to meet the demand
• With the growing demand, raids and local wars were ignited in order to seize the captives and and prisoners of war and sell them off
• Salve trade messed with the population distribution in africa
