World war 1 (also known as the Great War) was a large scale conflict involving many different European powers, the USA and the Russian Empire. It is known as a “World” war as many European powers had colonies across the world and these colonies became involved in the war. The conflict lasted from 1914-1918.$^1$

It had two sides, the Central Powers/Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente.
